In Shadow

AN ARTISTIC EXPLORATION OF BORDERLANDS & MIGRATION

In Shadow is a multimedia installation that explores the realities of the border and immigration policies of the United States.

This show is presented by 7 different artists and collaborators at 912 Julia Street to give life to a creative space where visitors can experience and get informed about the faces, stories, testimonies and names of those who have had to leave their country to seek a new life in the United States. This includes hours of interactive bilingual interviews from taken by the artists themselves from recent travels to and from New Orleans and the Southwest US/Mexico border.

In Shadow seeks to raise awareness around the themes of our immigration law and the inherent humans rights abuses it allows and the sanctioned genocide and torture of black and brown migrants committed by ICE and CBP.  Using different media such as photography, portraiture, sculpture and hours of interviews presented across 6 tablets in the gallery, this exhibition aims to involve the local community in the search for awareness and information to the multiple violations of rights that migrants receive.

The exhibition is composed by 17 art works made by artists: Savannah Levin, Nelle Edge, Lacy Levin, Cata Cowlen and Antonia Zennaro in collaboration with Natalia Roa, Josie Ygnatowitz and Elias Serhan.

All images are handprinted on fabric and are like the red line to conduct us through this visual and emotional journey through the shadows and lights of our politics on Immigration.
